Are there any requirements for referrals?
We are a referral based clinic, patients require a referral from their physician to be seen for our services. Common indications for referral are:
- Asthma
- COPD
- Shortness of Breath assessment
- Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD)
- Cough
- Breathing Issues
- Home Oxygen Assessment
- Diagnostic Testing
- Respiratory Education
Patients do not require any specific testing prior to referral.
*Recent PFT and CXR are essential elements to pulmonary evaluation in most cases. If no recent PFT or CXR results are available, we may arrange these tests as part of our respirology consultation.
Why should I refer to U-Breathe?
U-Breathe is committed to providing diagnostic testing and clinical evaluation for those suffering from various lung conditions. Can a patient be referred for a diagnostic test alone?
Yes. The PFT lab provides a full range of services and accepts direct referrals. The results of the tests are sent to the requesting physicians directly and can be found on NetCare.
What can I expect the wait times to be? (updated for COVID-19)
Unfortunately the timeline of the referral process has been affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we are gradually re-opening, the expected wait times are as follows:
Referrals for Pulmonary Function Testing are completed within 2 weeks.
Priority access is given to
- Asthma
- COPD
- Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD)
- Sarcoidosis
Urgent referrals for consultation are seen within 4 – 8 weeks.
What operational changes has U-Breathe made due to COVID-19?
U-Breathe adheres to the most recent guidelines on re-opening testing and relaunching services as provided by CPSA and AHS. we have created program for relaunching services at the U-Breathe PFT Laboratory and Respirology Clinic.
